Australian Call Centre Industry Rankings Q3 2026

When a new customer calls ready to buy, which Australian contact centres are easiest to reach, and which handle the sales conversation best? This report compares seven industries side by side and recognises the organisations setting the standard.

Every month we mystery shop banks, car insurers, energy retailers, internet providers, education providers and aged care providers as new customers making a sales enquiry. Councils are the one exception: we call them as residents with a general enquiry.

Every call is scored against 48+ CX metrics aligned to the ACXPA Contact Centre CX Standards. Nobody is told when we are calling.

Notes Six sectors are new-customer sales enquiries; councils are general enquiries. Calls answered means answered by a person within ten minutes (fifteen for councils). Average wait and time to reach a person include unanswered calls, counted up to the time limit.

Your sector doesn't decide your score. The highest and lowest sectors are 14.9 points apart. Inside banking, the highest and lowest banks are 58.6 points apart. What an organisation does on the phone matters far more than the industry it is in.

💡 Being liked and being effective are different things

Councils set the best Impact score of any sector (92.1%), yet the lowest Engage score (20.5%).

Internet tops the country on Overall CX, yet has the lowest Impact score.

🚪 Where Customers Are Lost – Q3 2026

Where the industry is losing ground

🚪 Where Australian Contact Centres Still Lose the Customer

More customers are getting through. The opening of the conversation is where most organisations still fall short.

30.7%Engage, the lowest of the five competencies, and down from 33.6% in Q2.
6.8%Bridge score: how often the agent clearly outlined how they would help.
6.9%Checks score: how often the agent checked the information was understood and suited the caller.

The opening is the cheapest fix in the call. Asking for and using the caller’s name scored 28.6%. Outlining how you will help costs one sentence, and it turns a list of questions into a call the customer can follow.

As more service moves to bots and online channels, the reason a customer still picks up the phone is to deal with a person. That human connection is the part of the call the industry most needs to get better at.

The end of the call slipped too. Close fell to 52.3%, and it is below 50% in councils, education and aged care.

Banks are missing customers who are ready to switch. With four interest rate rises this year and the cost of living biting, more Australians are shopping around for a better deal, from home loans to energy, insurance and internet.

Yet banking answered only 83.8% of assessed calls within ten minutes, the lowest of the seven sectors. A new customer ready to move their home loan is the caller most likely to be left waiting.

Phone menus are still deep in places. Callers worked through 2.0 menu layers on average, and 3.2 in car insurance, the deepest of any sector.

What the Three Scores Measure
How the Overall CX Score Is Calculated
Unlock the full picture

Wondering how your own centre would score?

An ACXPA membership opens up the sector picture — full leaderboards, rolling trends and the performance ranges behind every number on this page.

But the sector isn't your centre. Benchmarking mystery-shops your line exactly the way we shopped theirs — starting at six unscripted calls a month, and going as deep as you need.

📉 Find out where your centre is losing marks — the phone menu, the wait, or the conversation itself
🏁 See your centre scored the same way — same method, same CX Standards, from $397 a month with no lock-in
🎚 Go as deep as it's worth — from a monthly snapshot of 23 core metrics up to full 48+ metric assessments with call recordings
Membership shows you the sector. Benchmarking shows you your own centre.
Deepen your view

, unlock richer sector insight — and get your centre measured

Upgrade to membership for full leaderboards, rolling trends, lifetime averages and the performance ranges this public snapshot leaves out.

And when you want your own numbers rather than the sector's, there are four benchmarking services to choose from — from a light monthly snapshot to a full private program built on your own KPIs.

🔍 Where you actually sit — lifetime, monthly and rolling leaderboards, not one quarter's snapshot
🎚 Pick your depth — 23 core metrics monthly from $397, or full 48+ metric assessments with recordings and evaluator notes
🎯 Measured against whoever matters — named competitors, or a private program against your own standards
Membership adds sector depth. Benchmarking is the only route to your centre's own metrics.
Turn context into action

, see the rankings for your own contact centre

Your membership already gives you the sector picture — dashboards, rolling trends and results across every sector we benchmark.

What it can't tell you is how your own centre would score if we called it. Benchmarking can, at whatever depth is worth paying for — starting at six unscripted calls a month.

📉 Know exactly where you're losing marks — every stage of the call scored, from menu design to how the agent closed, not just the three headline scores
🎚 Start light or go deep — 23 core metrics monthly from $397, up to full 48+ metric assessments with call recordings and evaluator notes
🎯 Compare against whoever matters — name the competitors you want measured, or run a private program against your own KPIs and compliance checks
✅ Know what to fix first — prioritised actions to reduce friction and lift conversion, not a wall of numbers
Membership gives you the context. Benchmarking gives you the measure.
Empower your team

Seats give your team the market. Benchmarking gives you your own numbers.

Make sure your team are using their allocated Individual Member seats — that's the full sector view, already included in what you pay.

To measure your own organisation, four benchmarking services sit behind one page, from a monthly snapshot through to a private program built on your own compliance criteria.

👥 Your team sees the market — Individual Member seats you have already paid for
📉 You see your own centre — independently mystery-shopped every month, scored against the ACXPA Contact Centre CX Standards
🎚 Scale it to the question you're answering — 23 core metrics from $397, or full 48+ metric assessments with recordings
📈 A number you can take upstairs — trend analysis that stands up in a board pack
Seats show the sector. Benchmarking measures your centre.
Demonstrate your impact

Need proof for your clients? Benchmarking delivers it

Vendor seats include Individual Member access to the sector dashboards, so you can see where the market sits before you walk into the room.

To evidence provider-level performance — or prove what your own solution changed — you need independent scoring against the ACXPA Contact Centre CX Standards, delivered on a schedule rather than as a one-off.

🔎 Independent, not self-reported — third-party assessment with your name nowhere near the scoring
📈 Before and after — monthly data that shows movement over time, not a single flattering snapshot
🎚 Sized to the engagement — a light monthly measure from $397, or full 48+ metric assessments with recordings and evaluator notes
📄 Something you can actually send a client — a report they will believe because you did not write it
Membership = sector insight. Benchmarking = measurable results.
